Troubleshooting Client-Print

When you use a direct printer configured for client-print, your browser will download a .fornavprint file.

Does it download a file?

First, you can check if your browser downloads a file when you print. Something is wrong if you do not get a .fornavprint download.

If your browser does not open the .fornavprint files automatically, then it may show your downloads like this:

Printjobs waiting to print

If they are processed automatically, your list will show that they were removed after printing.

Printed printjobs

You can also see a list of downloaded files via your browser menu.

Downloaded printjobs

As you can see, looking in your download folder on your hard drive is not enough. If you open and print files, they are deleted, so you will not see anything in the normal download folder.

You should check the direct printer configuration if you do not see any downloads when printing. Make sure that the printer is not configured to queue the jobs. If it queues the jobs, then they are saved on the print queue in Business Central. The service-print mostly uses the queue whereas the client-print does not. However, some client printers may queue jobs with the status on hold to pick them up later and package them together. See more about printing multiple documents with client-print.

Local printer does not exist

If the print job contains a local printer name that does not exist on your machine, then the client-print program will open and let you select a different printer.
