Direct Print

The direct print component of the ForNAV product can send print jobs from Business Central directly to a printer without any user interaction. Print jobs can be started by a user action or the report request page. You can also print from AL-code in APIs or the job queue.

Cloud and on-premises

You can print directly to your printers from all Business Central environments. It does not matter if they are hosted in the cloud or on-premises. It also works for Business Central running in Docker containers or in a private cloud environment.

ForNAV, Word, and RDLC

No matter which reporting tool you use, you can print the report with direct print. This means that you do not have to use the ForNAV reports to print with direct print. Reports with regular RDLC and Word layouts will also print.

If you have existing PDF documents, such as technical drawings or shipping labels from an external provider, you can print those as well.

Zebra and raw print jobs

Most print jobs use the Windows printing engine. However, sometimes raw data is required to be sent to a printer. Direct print can do this and therefore supports ZPL (Zebra printing language) and other native printing formats.

Printing is needed anywhere. Depending on your printing needs, you can choose to use either client-print or service-print, which are part of the direct print package.

Secure

The printing solution does not share your print jobs with other providers. All communication happens directly between your Business Central and the local printing service or client.

No firewall must be opened to allow incoming requests. All communication is encrypted and initiated from inside the firewall.
