Why is My Printed Page Empty?

Issue

When printing a document, the output page appears blank, even though the report or document contains data.

Cause

This issue often occurs when the document is formatted for a larger paper size than the one being used in the printer. The content may be centered on the larger page format, causing it to be positioned outside the printable area of the smaller page. As a result, nothing appears on the printed page.

Solution

1. Check the Page Size Settings

  • Open the report layout in ForNAV Designer.
  • Verify the Page Size settings in the document properties.
  • Ensure the selected page size matches the paper size loaded in the printer.
  • Check that the paper size is set correctly on the direct printer definition in Business Central.

2. Adjust Print Alignment and Scaling

If the page size mismatch is unavoidable, try adjusting how the document fits on the smaller page:

  • Scaling: In the direct printer definition, select a Scale Mode and Scale to fit the paper.
  • Adjust Paper Size: Adjust the paper size in the direct printer definition.
  • Change Alignment: If possible, reposition content to be aligned with the smaller page.

3. Preview Before Printing

Use the Print Preview option in Business Central. Use this to check whether the content is visible and properly positioned before printing.

4. Use the Correct Printer Tray and Paper

  • If multiple paper sizes are available in the printer, make sure the correct tray is selected.
  • Load paper that matches the document’s page size if possible.

Summary

If a printed page appears empty, it is likely due to a mismatch between the document’s page size and the paper in the printer. Adjust the page size, scaling, or alignment settings to resolve the issue.
