Why is My Printed Page Rotation Incorrect?

Issue

When printing a document, the page orientation or rotation may be incorrect, even though the settings in Business Central specify the correct rotation.

Cause

This issue can occur due to the following reasons:

  1. Incorrect Rotation Settings: The page rotation is not properly configured in the direct printer definition in Business Central.
  2. Printer Driver Not Initialized: Some printers ignore rotation settings if the driver is not initialized in the printing user's context. This can happen when the printer driver has never been fully loaded for the user running the FORNAV Direct Print service.

Solution

1. Verify Rotation Settings in Business Central

  • Open the Direct Printer Definition in Business Central.
  • Check that the Rotation setting is correctly configured.
  • Ensure that the correct printer is selected and that it supports rotation settings.

2. Initialize the Printer Driver in the User Context

The printer driver must be initialized for the user running the FORNAV Direct Print service. Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the Computer

    • Sign in as the user that is running the FORNAV Direct Print service.
  2. Access Printer Properties

    • Open the Control PanelDevices and Printers.
    • Right-click the printer used for FORNAV Direct Print and select Printer Properties.
  3. Initialize the Printer Driver

    • Click on the Preferences or Advanced tab.
    • Apply any changes (even if none are necessary) and click OK.
    • This ensures that the driver settings are loaded and initialized for the user.

Summary

If printed pages have incorrect rotation, it may be due to the printer ignoring rotation settings because the driver is not initialized in the correct user context. To fix this, log in as the FORNAV Direct Print service user, open the printer properties, and initialize the driver settings. After this, Business Central’s rotation settings should function correctly.
